I have yet to see a way around it on my Mac system. I have the same problem that jgerman mentioned whether I launch from the xterm or add it to X11's Application menu: I get that dialog box with just an "OK" button and no other way to close that box, and then Inkscape immediately exits after I click "OK." Using "top" simultaneously in a Mac terminal window, I watched the process launch and run as long as the dialog box was there, and then the process exited immediately when I clicked "OK" in the dialog box. I have loved Inkscape for a long time on my Foresight Linux system, but I'm frustrated that after my company moved me to using a MacBook Pro with Leopard (10.5) I'm having the aforementioned problems opening Inkscape with X11.
